Starring: Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Jadin Gould, Richard Schiff

Superman gets a cinematic reboot, directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen) and "godfathered" by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight). Superman/Clark Kent is played by Brit thespian Henry Cavill (TV's The Tudors). Amy Adams is Lois Lane, Russell Crowe is Superman's father Jor-El, while Diane Lane and Kevin Costner are adoptive parents Ma and Pa Kent. The story traces young Clark as he comes to grips with his extraordinary powers, learns his origins, and journeys to discover what he was sent here to do. He is forced into action by two other surviving Kryptonaians who have also found their way to earth - the maniacal General Zod and his partner Faora (Antje Traue). While a sequel to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns (2006) had been announced, several delays and the success of The Dark Knight derailed the plans (which included Brandon Routh returning as Supes) and the project became a "reboot" with a new team. Hinting at a darker tone, screenwriter David S. Goyer says of the film: "We’re approaching Superman as if it weren’t a comic book movie, as if it were real... I adore the Donner films. It just struck me that there was an idealist quality to them that may or may not work with today’s audience."
